For the first time ever, we’re offering a special twist on our ever popular C&O Canal tour. The new, Family Fun version of this trip will provide both adults and children a chance to explore the living history of this storied route.
The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal served as a lifeline for early settlers. For us its adjoining towpath will serve as a route to an unforgettable family cycling adventure. Beginning in Washington, DC, the tour will include special features such as a performance by the head of George Washington’s survey team and a black-powder shooting demo at Fort Frederick. You’ll also have opportunities to take part in a Civil War reenactment, and, of course, pedal along one of the most famous cycling paths in America.
We’ll ride our hybrid or mountain bikes some 185 miles on traffic-free, gently-graded gravel and dirt trails from the towpath’s terminus to our nation’s capitol, where we’ll tour the National Mall. So, pack up your camera, your loved ones and your bicycles, and join us on this picturesque jaunt through early American history.
