It is no exaggeration
to affirm that a journey
by bicycle is like none
other; it is a thing
apart; it has a tempo
and a style of its own.

Alpine Loop, CO

TOUR DESCRIPTION

TRIP DATES: Aug 03, 2010 - Aug 07, 2010
LOCATION: Telluride, CO

Set in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, often described as the Switzerland of America, this van-supported tour traces the famous Alpine Loop and then adds several days of above-tree-line riding. If you are looking for a challenge, here it is. We’ll ride 30 to 40 miles of dirt daily, crossing incredible high alpine passes of 12,000 to 13,000 feet. This is probably the most challenging, shorter dirt tour that Adventure Cycling has ever offered!

Our route visits the modern day resorts of Telluride, Silverton, Lake City, and Ouray. (Think hot springs, delicious meals, and spectacular campsites!) We’ll wind through ghost towns from the area’s mining heyday, such as Animas Forks where a 1884 blizzard dumped 25 feet of snow in just 23 days. You’ll probably want to stop, too, at Capitol City — once predicted to become the capitol of Colorado — and Rose’s Cabin, one of the first structures built in the area.

The Alpine Loop is a great opportunity to test your skills and endurance while exploring some of the most beautiful and rugged country in America.
