TOUR DESCRIPTION
TRIP DATES: Sep 08, 2010 - Oct 22, 2010
START - END LOCATIONS: Bellingham, WA - San Diego, CA
This bike tour provides the rare opportunity to lose yourself day after day in a maritime feast for the senses, as you cycle through places where land and sea collide in a crescendo of moving sand, giant waves, and invigorating coastal breezes.
Departing from Bellingham, we’ll ride through western Washington to the Columbia River and follow that historic waterway to Astoria, where we’ll begin a 400-mile spin down the hilly coast of Oregon. This stretch features some of the most unspoiled beaches and finest state-park campgrounds in America. Entering California, we’ll hit Crescent City and then continue along the Pacific to magical San Francisco — but we will detour inland to visit such attractions as Redwood National Park.
South of San Francisco things get busier but no less spectacular, as we visit the Monterey Peninsula, breathtaking Big Sur, and bewitching Santa Barbara. After ceremonially setting the wheels of our touring bikes on the Mexico border, we’ll ride back to trip’s end in San Diego, a bustling city lauded for its cool summers and hot cycling.
