TOUR DESCRIPTION

TRIP DATES: Jul 26, 2009 - Aug 01, 2009
LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH

You'll encounter many key landmarks along the nation's "road to freedom," on this trip, which promises to be a moving experience in more ways than one. The moderate daily mileages and full support will allow you to truly absorb the social, political, and historical significance the route offers.

We'll start our ride through history in Cincinnati, home to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. Later, after enjoying a portion of the Little Miami Scenic Rail Trail, we'll take in the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center at Wilberforce. Our ultimate destination is Oberlin, Ohio, with its Heritage Center, numerous safe houses for freedom-seekers, and Oberlin College, the first college in the U.S. to admit African-American students. Along the way we'll also visit cemeteries where notable abolitionists and freedom-seekers are interred.

Indeed, a turbulent chapter in American history will come to life as you participate in this tour. But there's also plenty of fun and great riding to be had as we pedal through some of the Midwest's prettiest landscapes.
