The bicycle hides nothing
and threatens nothing.
It is what it does,
its form is its function.

A couple of months short of the spring thaw, most cyclists are feeling restless and wishing for a warm dry road to ride on. Well, if wishes were plane tickets to Tucson, we would all ride. This season, Adventure Cycling can provide you with a golden opportunity to start your riding season early and get a solid head start on your riding companions. Or better yet, bring the group and enjoy the camaraderie of a road trip with your pals.

Our early season ride will loop through the high desert countryside southeast of Tucson. The terrain is perfect for an early season warm-up as the local roads drop in and out of arroyos and climb the desert mountainsides. Professional cycling teams and ultra-distance riders have long used these roads for spring training, and it’s easy to see why. The landscapes are perfect settings for spectacular riding. Our ride itinerary reads like a roster of the old west—we’ll visit an historic old town in Bisbee, roll over Mule Pass, explore legendary Tombstone and the OK Corral, gallery hop in Patagonia, visit the vineyards near Elgin, and talk race horses in Sonoita.

Because it’s the beginning of the season, we offer this tour with luggage support and catered meals, making it a little easier to get back into the spin of riding. You’ll have free and unfettered rolling in the warmth of the clear Sonoran desert air. In view of the fact that there are many attractions to explore during your time off the bike, we have kept the riding manageable at between 40 and 60 miles each day, with options to go longer if you’re feeling strong.

It is so much easier and more enjoyable to get quality mileage outside, rather than toiling away indoors on a trainer. At some point, you’ll probably know how the race on the training video turns out anyway. Come join us, get rid of the cobwebs, and put some miles in long before the roads back home are dry.
