The Independence touring bike. |
Rebecca wins a handmade Independent Fabrication Independence bike and a free ride on an Adventure Cycling guided trip in 2006. Rebecca’s name was randomly chosen from Adventure Cycling’s 43,000 members to win the 2005 Bike Giveaway.
For her free trip, Rebecca has chosen Cycle Montana, Adventure Cycling’s popular seven-day, supported road ride through Montana’s scenic mountain valleys. “I have my heart set on riding around Montana this summer on a truly excellent bicycle,” she says. Though she’s been an Adventure Cycling member for over a decade, Rebecca is a self-described “wannabe” who has never traveled by bike and she says, “I'm really excited to take a tour with people who know what they're doing.”
Rebecca says she plans to take what she learns about bike travel on Cycle Montana this summer and teach it to her students. She also has an eye on Adventure Cycling’s soon-to-be-unveiled Underground Railroad Route and says, “I'm looking forward to an Underground Railroad tour with a group of my kids one of these days.”
Independent Fabrication describes the $1,750 Independence custom steel frame as their “full-bore touring bike.” It’s a rugged, expedition-worthy steed made with heavy-duty tubing and lots of rack- and fender- mounting options for fully-loaded bike travel. Based in Somerville, Massachusetts, IF specializes in building the finest custom bikes with the most cutting-edge materials and techniques in existence. Visit their website at www.ifbikes.com.
